Home for Easter vacation
Months of hysterical buildup to the show but Anne is not going
She's home with her mother practicing Russian when a station wagon pulls up outside and a young man gets out. Her mother tells her to let him in.
The two of them go down to the basement and chat
He asks for her hand in marriage.She laughs.He leaves in a hurry.

The rear view mirror shatters

Her mother cries. Annie runs to her room. Her mother phones Dr Roper ...

That night the Stones play the arena.
Annie goes to the hospital for treatment - they wipe her memory
Behind the hospital, unmarked graves of children lie in the moonlight

    In the basement she tries to understand what is being said to her.
    Upstairs her mother is listening at the kitchen door.
    What is going through her daughter's mind as her future goes up in smoke?

    Later her mother says "You could attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar" ...
    Another absurd statement that hangs in memory with nothing to pin it to. What flies? What vinegar?
    She doesn't remember a thing about that day
    It's thanks those doctors her mother keeps trusting - and that curious little girl who has opened too many little doors in their hospital

    Curiosity killed the cat


    No one would ever expect this moment to echo through time and appear in a video 30 years later.
    Everyone thinks she did it to herself but still NOBODY TELLS HER

    The ring stays in his pocket
    The doctors erase her memory again
    Her baby doll pajamas lie under her pillow
    Her mother goes into mourning and seclusion
    But otherwise there would have been no Rolling Stones
    They would have gathered moss long ago

  Dear Ann, I've heard a more recent podcast by you talking about your family. Here's the quote: "The connections are all there, if people want to find them, you know. I can just talk & talk, um, you know. And I'm not going to get into the rock star (laughs) aspect of it, but that's part of it.  And my father was a musician and he was a music teacher in Montreal and he knew people in the jazz scene. He knew Oscar Peterson, and so on. He knew Maynard Fergusson early, people in the jazz scene. He also had a brother who worked in Chicago in & Detroit with black entertainers. It has taken me years to realize I may have had another life that got erased. To say it was stolen from me by the doctors, is maybe an exaggeration or distortion. It was a combination of circumstances and choices that were made without anyone consulting me, which culminated in some kind of massive memory loss, similar to what was done to my father. Probably dad and I bonded over our shared amnesia. He would have known at least a part of the truth --  which had to be kept hidden from me for my own protection. So her and I almost never talked even during long hours in the country or in the car driving to school and back.  Probably it just boils down to the fact that I was too young to do what was set out for me by my elders. I was too shy and insecure and also too stubborn to play my part. Before my 14th birthday I at least had a chance at connecting with the boy of my dreams -- but by the time he showed up he was unrecognizable to the little mermaid who had known him as a young boy. T
